기원전 8세기, 시칠리아 섬 남부에 그리스인들에 의해 세워진 도시 시라쿠사.

대성당광장의 이름은 이 성당으로 인해 붙여졌는데

성당은 7세기에 그리스 신전 위에 세워졌다.
